The Coroner is a 2D interactive fiction horror game made for the week-long Scream Jam game jam. It follows the story of you dissecting the corpses of the city, only to realize that it isn’t as simple as it seems…

During this game jam, my main goal was to always have the player be in an audio setting of unease and distress.

To accomplish this, I made the surgical instruments sound extra metallic and sharp by boosting the high-end and the waveshaping distortion effect. Additionally, the ambience is constantly surrounded by the sounds of heavy breathing and heartbeats, signifying a situation of stress.

Work Flow

Create sfx using sound libraries and editing them inside FL Studio.

Music is imported into FMOD and controlled with a parameter for dynamic music implementation in the scripts.

Sound effects are imported into FMOD each with different variations.

Created FMOD Events script to store all of the Events from FMOD, and Audio Manager that sets up functions to play those Events in the game.

Worked alongside programmers to set up Github and coded triggers for various sound effects and dynamic music cues for different parts of the game.
